2024 St Huberts Yarra Valley Pinot Noir
St Huberts Pinot is usually designed to be a 'fuller' style Yarra Pinot, with more depth and concentration than many of our local brethren. Given many of the lighter styles produced on the valley floor this year, we (ironically) bolstered from selected vineyards in the Upper Yarra, the blend around 50:50. Pressed just before dryness for a little barrel fermentation, some time on lees, and a lick of good French oak add complexity. Most importantly- our Pinot looks like a Pinot (not dry red) and shows regional character.
Palate - The wine is light-medium bodied, even and textural. Glacé cherries and oak mesh on the palate. Supple tannins support throughout and make for an expansive finish. “A lighter St Hubert’s Pinot with purity its core.”
Nose - Classic Yarra Valley cherry fruit characters dominate along with red jelly crystals and graphite notes. Background hints of blood plums and dark chocolate. Spicey oak frames the wine.
Maturation - Matured for eight months in 100% French oak barriques, with around 26% new.
