2023 St Huberts Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir
A second vintage from the acclaimed and immaculately kept Robinson vineyard in Tuerong on the Mornington Peninsula. A small parcel of MV6 clone was handpicked and partially destemmed, leaving around 15% whole bunches in the open pot ferment. Pressed off to French oak (just before dryness) for a little barrel fermentation. The wine was then matured on lees for seven months. Although similar vintage conditions, a great example of vintage variation.
Nose - Bold, complex and layered. Dark pastels, morello cherries and raspberry jam. Graphite, forest floor, savoury spice, whole bunch stem with hints of funk and oak.
Palate - The wine is brooding and full, with excellent proportion. Even with lovely, density, texture and detail. Red and blue fruits, savoury notes and terrific length. (A chunkier number than the perfumed and restrained 2022!)
Matured for seven months in 100% French oak barriques, with around 23% new.
